Anyone that has kids knows that they always want to do things by themselves, go places that they have never been or try something that they've never done before. And as a parent sometimes we just say "no" or "not now" or "maybe another time." Well I am happy to say that without even knowing it I said "sure do it by yourself," "yes we can do that right now," and "go ahead, try it, it will be fun." So here are a few of the pictures from the last few weeks of Rykers experiences that he had when he asked me to do something. When he asked to do each of these things I found myself asking "Why not?"
Mom, can I use the microwave?

Kennedy had given Ryker some leftover cinamelts from McDonalds and he wanted to warm them up in the microwave by himself. I showed him how to do it. He touched all the buttons on the microwave and once it started I went out to the garage. While I was cleaning up the garage I smelled a campfire. I kept cleaning and then I smelled it again but stronger. I started thinking about what my kids might be doing inside that could catch on fire. And then it hit me--Ryker! The Microwave! I ran inside and sure enough Ryker was nowhere to be found but he had obviously hit the one minute button on the microwave multiple times. The campfire smell? The cinamelts and the box they were in. I think his face says it all!
Mom, can we walk over that bridge?

Right next to our bank is this walk over bridge. The bridge allows the high school kids cross over a very busy road so as to avoid any tragic accidents. It's a great idea and there should be more of them. Well everytime we go to the bank Ryker will ask if we can walk across this bridge. On this particular day when he ask I said sure let's go. He was so excited and he kept asking, "We can?, We can?" So we walked up the bridge and all the way down the other side and then back over again. Ryker was pretty funny because when we were first walking up he was a little nervous about what was going to happen when he got to the top of the bridge. Once he got to the top he was fine but I had to keep him from throwing little rocks he found onto the cars crossing under us.
Mom, Can I do this?
Ryker always ask me to go to gymnastics like Kennedy does. So on this particular friday I decided to take him to open gym. He had such a great time. There were about 5 kids there and he was able to do anything he wanted. His two favorite things were jumping into this giant pit of foam which is intended for kids who are practicing rings, bars and routines on the trampoline.
He also loved this zipline that they had. He just did it over and over. I did put my foot down when he tried to put on Kennedy's bodysuit that she wears to gymnastics.

What are some things that your kids are always asking to do ?

I admire you for being a "say yes" Mom Joella. But the microwave incident made me laugh. I can relate. Good to catch up with you.
You are such a good mom. I need to start paying attention to what my kids want to do. I don't think they ever ask. They just do and then I'm left cleaning it all up. Or, they are always wanting to go get a game at Play n Trade. Every once in awhile they catch me in a moment of weakness on that one. Then I'm left breaking up fights the rest of the day.
I LOVE this! I was just thinking recently about how many times I say "no" or "not right now" and I need to make more of an effort to not do that so often!
Great job with being so positive! I had to laugh when you said you had to put your foot down about the body suit! (: I think Ryker and Kennedy look a lot alike. Thank you for helping in nursery today! We really appreciated your help!
