On Saturday Night Shawn and I had the opportunity to attend the Symphony. It was the first Pops concert of the season. It was a tribute to Louis Armstrong and they had Master Trumpeter Byron Stripling perform the Louis Armstrong songs. Not only did he play but he also sang, danced and entertained. I would have to say it was not your typical symphony outing.
Right before "half-time" as Byron called it, he sang and played the song by Louis Armstrong entitled, "Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans." It was a very emotional moment for me as I listened to him sing those words and I thought about all of the memories of friends, food, and culture that we experienced for those 6 years that we lived there. I do know what it means to miss New Orleans and because of that, Shawn and I have decided that we will be taking the kids down for spring break so that they can see the places they lived, eat the food that is so good and visit the friends that were so good to us while we were there.
I didn't realize how much I missed that great city. I cooked red beans and rice on Sunday night and everyone agreed that they were the best they had eaten in a while. It must have been the special pan bought for me by my good friend and the secret ingredient that she shared with me. Most of all I think it was the fond memories that I have of our time there.
New Orleans...Proud to call it home!

Sounds like a fun plan - to go to New Orleans. I wish I'd gone to the symphony concert. My Dad and sis both play in the symphony, but I don't get to go very often.
