After 12 years of racing the winner is....

After 12 combined years of Pinewood Derby's Carter finally convinced his dad to go for speed and not design. Well, Shawn couldn't give up the design part-so they agreed on a slice of pizza (because the wedge is the fastest design apparently!). Then for about a week they worked daily on this little car. They sanded, sanded and sanded some more. And no it wasn't the block of wood they were sanding it was the nails that hook the wheels onto the car!! I didn't know they made so many different kinds of sandpaper. Then they spent some time balancing the car on a pencil and adding weights so the car stayed balanced. When all was said and done the last statement going out of our house to the race was, "Carter, you won't be dissapointed if you don't win." Because we didn't really see that it looked any faster than the rest. And then race after race the pizza car kept winning. What a fun night for a boy who has been trying to convince his dad to go for speed for the last four years! Pinewood Derby's are officially done for the Shanklins....at least for 5 years until Ryker turns 8.
