Christmas Clothes and Cookies

Last night all the kids got new Christmas clothes for church. So before church I took pictures of the kids and then I took my camera to church to get a picture of us with Dad because at this time of year he as at the church for a few extra hours doing tithing settlement and their was no way we were going to get the little kids to stay in their church clothes until he got home.

We have a friend from church who is from Germany and I am being to believe that all people from Germany have the most interesting stories and colored childhood. I love listening to President Uchtdorfs at General Conference because of all his stories from living in Germany. Anyway her husband passed away a few years ago and Shawn and Justin are her home teachers (they visit her each month and share a message with her). Over the course of time we have learned a lot about her and the things she loves. One of her favorite treats is decorated sugar cookies. So tonight she came over and decorated cookies with us and shared stories about growing up in Germany and what some of their traditions were. Very interesting and inspiring. My kids learned tonight how blessed they are to live in this country and to have an abundance of things like oranges and bananas. I know it seems silly but they would wait in line for 3 hours to get one orange and one banana if they were lucky. Here are a few pictures of our night tonight with her.

You guys were always the best at including everyone. I have some cousins that lived in Germany for three years while my uncle was in the Army there. I remember they came home with so many new traditions.
I'm pretty homesick this time of year. It's just not the same. Russell will finish his MBA in the Spring, and will apply for jobs both here and in Springfield. Cross your fingers for us that something will open up there!
Have a merry Christmas!
