Things that make you go hmmm!

So I remember the chorus of this song "Things that make you go hmmmm" and when I looked it up to see who wrote it (CC Music factory) I also came across the words and I'm ashamed to admit that I even thought of this song when I was thinking of this last month but at least I only remembered the chorus not the rest of the song.

Anyway here are some of the things that made me go "hmmm" this past month.

1. Fruit flies that appeared in my home at the same time my Aunt Terri and Uncle Darryl came from Oregon with their 5th wheel and stayed for 2 weeks (the fruit flies not my Aunt and Uncle)

2. Running so hard that you throw up and then pass out as soon as you cross the finish line.

3. A child who will perform for anyone, anywhere, anytime.

4. Why middle school basketball coaches post the teams 4 hours after tryouts have ended instead of just telling the boys at the end of tryouts.

5. Why some of my children really love Halloween and others don't.

6. Why we waited so long to get a new car

7. Why having a family outing is an inconvenience until you get there.

So......

1. The fruit flies that I tried to blame on my Aunt and Uncle ( not really!!) ended up coming from Brady's trash can way down in the basement where he had been putting half eaten bananas after he got back from Cross Country meets. The good news is that every cupboard in my kitchen is now spotless.

2. Brady has been running cross country this year and he made it all the way to State which was very exciting. His team took 7th in the state and he came in as the 4th runner out of 7 for his team and 93rd overall. Placing as the 2nd sophomore finisher in our area. Anyway, the state meet was very warm--in the 70's--not ideal running weather. The boys ran at about 1:30 after a 45 minute delay due to the girls race prior to them having too many medical emergencies due to the heat. So they race on a golf course that doesn't even look fun to walk let alone run a 5k on. And as they finish-the girls are the worst-they throw up and then pass out. But what's so great about it is that they have literally given everything the have and there body can't do anymore. It's actually pretty amazing to watch these kids. Brady ended up getting a team award for the new runner that made the biggest difference on the team. He was pretty proud of that. I was proud of him for being named State All Academic team which means he plays sports (running 5-8 miles a day) and carries a 3.8 GPA or higher.

3. Kennedy has had the opportunity to perform in many different venues and has loved every minute of it. She had a solo in the school music performance and just got told yesterday that she will also have another solo in the Christmas show. She also had the roll of her principal in the Student Council play. She loves performing in the local theatre troupe. She was recently in the local paper for her talent. We are trying to keep a balance and not get heavily involved at a young age but when your only goal is to be "famous" that is hard to do. Wish us luck.
If you want to see her interview in the paper click here

4. We finished football and then 2 days later had basketball tryouts. The 4 hours between the end of tryouts and the posting of the list was miserable at our house. Justin played last year so he should have been a little more confident. But he said he had a terrible tryout and refused to go see the list when it was posted. He was sure he didn't make the team. We are thankful for modern technology-like facebook- where one of his teammates came home and put every ones name on facebook that made the team. But just to make sure we still had to drive up there. 3 games so far and 2 wins, 3rd game lost by 2.

5. I still have only 2 children that really love Halloween. Okay they all like Halloween but only 2 like dressing up. Kennedy as Sharpay and Ryker as Spongebob. I wish I would have entered him into a contest. My friend one $100 for dressing her kids up as three of the little rascals. They were darling and it left me wishing I would have gone too.

6. Yes you heard it. We ( Shawn) no longer has to drive the 20 year old Camry that just doesn't die. He is now the proud owner of a 2000 Toyota Avalon XLS. Although many call it an old persons car he doesn't care and it is the top of the line and it was taken care of at the dealership locally so they had all the records. Unfortunately he might own this for another 20 years.

7. Every time we plan a family outing someone has to complain about going, what they would rather be doing or how boring it is going to be. Then we get there and we have a great time. In particular we went to the corn maze and pumpkin patch where we tried guessing the riddles to work our way through the corn maze and ended up using CHA CHA to give us the answers. We buy terrible tasting hot cocoa, buy pumpkins that are too expensive and watch the same magic show we have watched for the last 5 years. But now matter what everyone is happy they went and if we gave them the choice to stay home they wouldn't.

Wow you are so busy with all the kids and their various activities!! I just love reading your posts. You're always so clever and entertaining. You can tell you and your Aunt come from the same family! I'm assuming it's Amber that won the $ for her kids' costumes. That's pretty neat. Brady is awesome! I could never run that far. Good for him! What preschool does Ryker go to? We were wanting to have Nathan attend one part time next summer or fall but we didn't know any good places to send him. Love your pumpkin patch family photo!! Your kids are growing up so fast!
