Dishwasher Saga

This could be long so bear with me. The saga begins the friday before Christmas. Our garbage disposal quits working. Shawn and I go to Home Depot and buy a new one. We come home and Shawn quickly puts it in without reading any instructions at all. On Saturday morning I run a load of dishes and the dishwasher has a pool of water in the bottom of it. Of course my immediate reaction is, "you've got to be kidding me!" So I ran the dishwasher again to make sure it really was broken. Well it was....or was it???

Christmas was happening, things to be done, and washing dishes by hand made for some good family discussion time. It meant I spent a lot more time doing dishes when normally Shawn does a majority of the dishes. Christmas came and went. The new year came and went and finally on Shawn's birthday we went and bought a new dishwasher.

The dishwasher was delivered on Wednesday and by Wednesday night I was using my dishwasher. Shawn took this time to teach Brady the skills of installing a dishwasher. But there was no need for reading instructions because it doesn't take a rocket scientist to install a dishwasher

Thursday morning I woke up and my dishwasher had a pool of water in it!!! I was beside myself...so what did I do? I took matters into my own hands and actually read the installation manual for the dishwasher. After making sure they did install it correctly, after searching my problem on google I couldn't find an answer.

So I went to the back of the instructions to the trouble shooting guide. And the very last suggestion under our listed problem it said, "make sure disposal plug is out." It took me a few minutes to process what I had read.

I quickly unhooked the disposal and stuck my finger in the hole where the water from the dishwasher should backflow into the disposal. And what did I find??

A PLUG!!!!

I took a screwdriver and hammer, knocked the plug out and guess what???

THE GOOD NEWS (for me)-

My new dishwasher worked.....and my old dishwasher was taken away!!!

THE BAD NEWS (for Shawn)- My old dishwasher was never broken and it was taken away.

I waited to type this story until Shawn began admitting to others what he had done. He has now told many of his friends and co-workers so I feel likeI can tell you the real story.

The truth is that we really needed a new dishwasher and Shawn knew it. So it didn't hurt that much to know we spent so much money on a new dishwasher when the old one still worked.

***Note***the picture above is not our actual dishwasher but very similar. Didn't want you all to think we have taken up the habit of drinking!!

Have you ever installed something without reading the instructions and then had trouble later?
